What are the issues with Vista Service Pack? How to effectively resolve Vista Service Pack issues?

August 22, 2020 by Jimmie Bourn

Hope this article can help you if you are having problems with Vista Service Pack on your PC.

Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) is an update for Windows Vista that contains important customer feedback. SP1 addresses specific reliability and performance issues, supports new types of hardware, and supports several new standards.

What was bad about Windows Vista?

Vista is too slow
Vista has over 50 million lines of code. This flood of software has slowed down Windows Vista, especially when it is running on anything other than the latest and greatest hardware. Despite this, the latest version of Windows XP is clearly superior to the latest version of Microsoft Vista.

I have discussed some of these issues before, but I thought it would be a good idea to keep a list of all known Vista SP1 issues to watch out for. I'll update this post when I find new ones.

Problems With The Device Driver ^

vista service pack problems

This issue is the reason Microsoft has moved the general release of SP1 to mid-March. This doesn't seem like a big deal for advanced Vista users. This article (KB 948187) has more.

Programs Having Problems With Vista SP1 ^

I already mentioned that Vista SP1 does not fix compatibility issues, but creates new ones. This article (KB935796) lists all known programs that do not work correctly with Vista SP1. I suggest you read them before installing this service pack. Please let us know if you are having problems with other apps that are not on this list.

Endless Restart Problem ^

What is typically included in a service pack?

In the computing arena, a service pack consists of a set of software updates, fixes, or enhancements that are provided as a single installable package. Service packs are usually numbered and are therefore called SP1, SP2, SP3, and so on.

This Vista SP1 issue is getting a lot of attention. Required update (KB937287) triggers endless restarts on some computers. Microsoft has suspended automatic distribution of this updateI am. I have already installed this update, but this problem did not occur. I just checked Windows Update and it is available again. Before that, I could still install Vista SP1 without this patch. Thus, it seems that this problem is not as serious as it initially seemed. KB949358 provides detailed information on how to resolve this issue if you're interested.

Sleep Problem ^

Milo reports that some SP1 systems crash when they try to wake up their PC. I found the same problem on a Vista machine without SP1. In such cases, a BIOS update may be helpful. However, I don't know if the problem Milo described is new. He thinks it might be related to the reboot. However, I think it must be something else, since the reboot is not about hibernation.

Problem With Windows Mobile Device Center ^

There are reports that Vista x64 SP1 was accidentally released for Windows Update. ITWire received emails from users who had problems after installing SP1. With one withThors, memory and performance score are no longer displayed, on the other hand it is Windows Mobile Device Center. Because of the screenshot they posted, it is familiar to me. Sometimes the same nonsensical error message appears when I connect my Windows Mobile 6 device to different desktops running Windows Mobile Device Center. The only solution I found was to reset Windows Mobile. I'm not sure if this is really the same problem, but it could be that SP1 was causing an authentication issue that was probably causing the error message in my case.

GPMC (Group Policy Management Console) Will Be Removed ^

If you manage Group Policy for Vista computers on your PC, I will not install SP1 as GPMC is removed after installation. Microsoft plans to release a new version, but as far as I know, this is not the case yet.

Sound Problem ^

German Windows Vista Blog and Aaron discovered a problem with the sound system. It looks like it is related to the driver issue described above. However, Microsoft has dedicated a dedicated article to it (KB948481).

While some media outlets make these SP1 issues very important, I don't think they are still serious. Of course, those affected may have a different opinion. But do you remember the problems caused by Service Pack 2 for Windows XP? Well, XP is now everyone's favorite.
