How can I restore regedit to remove an installed program?

August 12, 2020 by Steven Colson

You should check these fix methods when getting regedit and remove the error code from the program installed on your computer. Open Registry Editor by choosing Start, Run, typing regedit and clicking OK. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Uninstall. Right-click an item in the left pane with an extended delete key and select Delete.

Let's say we all accidentally deleted a directory, or somehow deleted a program, and now there are entries in the Software list for programs that are no longer on our hard drives. If you click on these entries to delete them, Windows will either complain about an error or nothing will happen. For some of the good monsters, this can be a problem as we now have unnecessary entries that overload our software list and have no way to remove them!

But this is wrong. There are ways to remove these entries from our computer to keep our software list clean and tidy. This guide describes a method for deleting entries for programs that are no longer on your computer. This method requires editing the registry. If not done correctly, it can cause problems with your computer. If you are not comfortable doing this, do not follow the steps listed here. You can always ask us on the computer help forums. for any help. You can find a list of entries in the "Software" list atyour database for deletion, searchable.

Please note that this method should only be used if you cannot uninstall the program in the usual way through the Software window. You should always try to uninstall a program using the included uninstall application or the "Software" option.

regedit remove installed program

If you still cannot uninstall a program, you can manually remove items from the Add / Remove Programs list by doing the following:

Now that you know how to keep the list of added / removed programs clean and tidy, there is no reason not to do it :)

As always, if you have any questions about this process, please let us know on the IT Help Forums.
