Solving a problem with an earlier version of the Java Runtime

If you receive an error from previous versions of the Java Runtime, this user guide is here to help you.

The latest Java version is Java 14 or JDK 14, released on March 17, 2020 (follow this article to check the Java version on your computer). JDK 15 is currently working for early access versions.

 

 

A. On rare occasions, a Java update is released that affects Voyant's ability to run and forces the user to temporarily downgrade to an earlier version until the fix is ​​fixed. This is a one step and possibly two to three step process, depending on whether an older version of Java is also installed. If you have an older version, just uninstall the latest Java version (see below). It is enough to uninstall the latest version and release the old one. If you don't have an older version, you will need to download and install it from the Oracle archive and reinstall Voyant.

Windows 8 has a "Charms" bar accessible through the hot corner at the top or bottom right. Place the cursor in one of the corners until five icons appear on the right edge of the screen. Click on the search button. You can also access the search tag using the keyboard shortcut (Windows logo + Q). Find "Control Panel".

3. Scroll down and select Java (only the most recent version if you have more than one), for example B. Java 8 Update 171 from the Apps & Features screen. Then click the "Delete" button.

Congratulations! That should be all you need to do to revert to the Voyant compatible version of Java. However, if the LED does not light up, it needs to be reset (see below).



If you do not have an older version of Java on your computer, you need to download and install the previous version and reinstall Voyant.

6. If the control panel does not display an older version of Java, download and install the older version of Java from the Oracle archive page: Java SE 8 archive is being downloaded.



There will be two versions of Java for Windows. The choice depends on whether your Windows operating system is 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64).

How many versions of Java are there?

First, the only current version of Java is Java 6, which is currently available in update 17 or so. Java 5 and earlier have reached the end of their lifecycle.
