Tips for fixing avast antivirus.exe manually

Here are some simple methods that you can use to fix manual avast antivirus.exe removal problem.

  1. Download avastclear.exe to your desktop.
  2. Start Windows in Safe Mode.
  3. Open (run) the uninstaller.
  4. If you installed Avast in a folder other than the default folder, find it. (Note: Be careful! The contents of the selected folder will be deleted!)
  5. Click DELETE.
  6. Restart your computer.

Go to the Windows taskbar and look for the orange Avast icon. Then right click it and find "Avast Shields Control". Choose one of the options - turn it off for 10 minutes OR 1 hour OR until the computer restarts OR permanently. Step 2. Confirm your choice by clicking YES when Avast prompts.

If you did NOT change the default location during installation, you can leave the top two locations as “unchanged” / ignore them. If several Avast! After installing versions, you can close and reopen ASWCLEAR and select a different version. I've done all of them before, when they were unknown.

After ASWCLEAR, reboot the system and you can now "clean" the installation. On rare occasions, I've used this issue to replace corrupted installations.
