How to fix the classic view problem in Windows 7 Explorer?

July 23, 2020 by Larry Thomas

You may receive an error message indicating how to get Classic View in Windows Explorer 7. There are several ways to fix this problem, and we'll talk about them now. To restore the classic navigation tree, open Windows Explorer, click Organize and select Folder and Search Options from the drop-down menu. On the General tab of the Folder Options dialog box, select the Show all folders in the Navigation Pane check box to select this check box.

How do I make Windows 10 Explorer look like Windows 7?

Windows Explorer in Windows 7 has undergone several important changes, including a new navigation pane. The classic folder and directory tree in Windows Vista and XP has been replaced with a list of groups such as favorites, libraries, home network groups, computer, and network. Unused drives, such as a floppy drive or CD, DVD, or Blu-ray drives, will not appear under Computers until you insert one of these media types.

In Windows Vista and XP, the Windows Explorer tree view displayed the desktop and provided easy access to your personal folders, shared folders, and workstations on which all disks, such as floppy drives and CD players, were media in disks or not.

How do I find Windows Explorer in Windows 7?

Windows Explorer explains where to find it
  1. Press Windows-E on your keyboard (this is one of my favorite keyboard shortcuts).
  2. Right-click the Start button and select Browse. (Windows 7 eventually renamed this option. Open Windows Explorer.)
  3. Navigate through the Applications menu until you find the Accessories folder. The researcher is there.

In Windows 7, however, some items in the new Navigation Pane are no longer available. The control panel, trash can and your personal user folder (% SystemDrive% \ Users \ ) are hidden by default. These elements can be displayed with a simple trick that resets the navigation pane to the classic tree style.

To restore the classic navigation tree, open the wireWindows nickname, click Organize and select Folder and Search Options from the drop-down menu.

On the General tab of the Folder Options dialog box, select the Show all folders in the Navigation Pane check box to check the box. If you want the tree to expand automatically to display the current folder, select the Automatically expand to current folder check box.

The desktop group is now displayed, showing all libraries, your user folder, computer with all drives (also currently unused), network, control panel, and trash can.

Notice that the Library Group still appears at the top of the Navigation Pane, but is less visible. You can completely remove libraries from the navigation area using hacky registration. However, this is somewhat complicated and can lead to stability issues on Windows. Therefore, I do not recommend trying this. Enjoy!
