How to fix hard drive problems

To create a bootable Norton Ghost USB drive, you must first format the USB drive to NTFS and then copy the contents of the Norton Ghost recovery drive to the USB drive. We are using Norton Ghost 15 as a bootable USB drive as an example.

Step 1. Format The USB Key

1. Plug in your USB drive and open a command prompt: type "cmd" in the search box> right click on command prompt and select "Run as administrator".

4. Enter the following commands one at a time and wait for each step to complete. Remember to replace "x" By the USB key number specified in the "list disk" command.

Notes:
◆ If you installed Norton Ghost to a different folder on your hard drive, enter the correct location.
◆ Replace "x" with the correct letter of your flash drive.
◆ If your computer supports UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface), you need to format your USB drive as FAT32 instead of NTFS. To format the partition to FAT32, enter the format fs = fat32 quick and press Enter.

Step 2. Copy The Contents Of The Norton Ghost Recovery Disc



Insert the recovery CD and copy the files to a bootable USB drive. If the recovery disk is an ISO image file, you can mount the ISO using the virtual disk program and then copy the files to the USB driver.

You can also back up the image and save it to a USB stick. If your computer crashes, you can boot your computer from a USB drive and perform a recovery.

Step 3. Run And Repair The Norton Ghost USB Boot Drive

You can now test your Norton Ghost USB bootable drive. Restart your computer and goin the BIOS boot options menu. Select a bootable USB drive and boot your computer from there.

How do I boot from a recovery disk?

To start with recovery media, follow these steps:
  1. Connect CD / DVD or USB stick to your computer.
  2. Restart your computer and press F8 (default) or another special key to open the Start menu before starting the operating system.
  3. Select a CD-ROM drive to boot CD / DVD or removable media to boot a USB flash drive.


You have created a bootable USB flash drive with which you can start your computer. Then you can create a system image or other types of backups as needed. Just select a backup option and follow the wizard toits creation. You can also schedule scheduled backups to run daily / weekly / monthly.
